I love restaurants. Everything about them: the chefs, bartenders, managers, servers, line cooks—you name it. I’ve held most of these positions at one point in my life, except for chef (but I do play one at home). It is exhilarating and challenging as a photographer to be able to translate into imagery one particular joint’s vibe. All great restaurants and bars have different personalities, quirks and, hopefully, a sensibility that will attract regulars. I have two restaurant books on shelves this fall: I think this one, Chef Michael Chiarello’s BOTTEGA, exemplifies the experience. Bottega is a dynamic yet comfortable place where the staff is excellent, Michael is a rock star master in his Yountville kitchen and a bad ass entertainer on the floor.
